If the drinking sorrows of The Replacements had been captured by an angrier Sunny Day Real Estate or a louder Jeff Buckley, The Greater Midwest may have been beaten to the punch. However, there's more going on in the group than to be labeled a younger, heavier Death Cab for Cutie. With live shows reaching for the layered guitar intensity of My Bloody Valentine, the punk origins of the drums and steady bass still manage to shine through, creating a unique wall of sound that is new, yet happily familiar."
